vodafone USB broadband modem on linux

vodafone_modem      After i spent few hours trying other  solutions i found on forums regarding this problem, i figured out the solution by myself and i would like to share it in case any of you will need it!

First thing we need is usb_modeswitch, a mode switching tool allowing to controll “flip flop” (multiple device) USB gear.

Download the files from:

usb-modeswitch-2.0.1.tar.bz2

usb-modeswitch-data

Also if you dont have it already, you will need libusb-1.x too.

After you have this files installed on your machine, open the terminal and add this lines:

usb_modeswitch -WD -v 12d1 -p 1526 -n -M 555342437f0000000002000080000a11062000000000000100000000000000 -I -w 500
 modprobe option
 echo "12d1 14cf" > /sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id

Now open your internet connections window, select Mobile Broadband, create a new mobile broadband connection and for connection settings leave them as default, just the password must be changed to 1234.

Plug-in your Vodafone USB and have fun!
